The Fourth of July is absolutely one of my favorite holidays. I love America, land of the free and home of the brave. I feel blessed to live in this country. And, I LOVE red, white and blue. When I was a little girl my grandma always bought me a cute red, white, & blue outfit for the 4th of July. We always spent the fourth at the hometown parade and other celebrations, and then fireworks that night with all of my cousins, aunts and uncles. My grandpa and grandma made our lives magical.
To create this make I began with a small TH etcetera tag. I pulled six different papers from the Idea-Ology Paper Stash Etcetera pad and cut in different sizes to fit the tag. Using a TH mini ink blending tool I edged each paper piece in gathered twigs distress ink and glued onto the tag with collage medium matte. I covered the reinforcer with another paper piece from the same paper collection and collage medium matte. I sanded the edges to make it fit the reinforcer and inked with gathered twigs distress ink. This I glued on the hole at the top.
Using the Tim Holtz Inquisitive rubber stamps, I stamped the numbers and then the 3 men in a row with Prize Ribbon distress ink and the target in lumberjack plaid distress ink on Hammermill Premium Color Copy Cover Paper 80 lbs. white. This clearly is one of my favorite papers for stamping. It is very white, extremely smooth, and stamps cleanly.
I cut out the target with a circle thinlits die after which I cut 4-5 more circles from red cardstock and glued together for height. Next, I stenciled the TH layering stencil stars on two of the stamped pieces with lumberjack plaid distress ink and the mini ink blending tool. I edged all three pieces with gathered twigs and backed the number and 3 men pieces with red cardstock from my stash – also edged in gathered twigs.
Using two pieces of paper the same width I cut them to create an arrow. On one I stenciled the same stars with lumberjack plaid and on the pointed end piece I used mini layering stencil #31 to create lines with prize ribbon. Once again both pieces are edged in gathered twigs with a mini blending tool.
With ‘Alphaneumeric Bulletin’ thinlit dies I cut USA from TH watercolor paper. I sprayed the red pieces with lumberjack plaid and the blue with prize ribbon
distress ink sprays. White pieces I left white. I cut two sets and colored differently to use the outlines.
I began gluing on each stamped piece with Collage medium matte beginning at the top with the numbers strip. Next, I lined up the arrow pieces and glued them in place and adding the target piece on top. The three men piece followed, and USA is centered at the bottom.
I attached a TH bottle top to the middle of the target. I glued 5 different pieces from TH ephemera packs snippets and palettes in different places. I used several red, white, and blue ribbons from a Michael’s Recollection ribbon packet and threaded them through the reinforcer the tag. I ran a red piece of twine around the base of the ribbons and tied three TH charms – happy, #4, and a prize ribbon – on followed by a star glued to the bottom right corner.
Happy Birthday America!
